Man charged with 2nd-degree murder after Osborne Village assault victim dies in hospital
Richard Lauren Fehr, 56, was assaulted in late May; Dorion Anthony Terrence Olson, 25, charged: police
A 25-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder after an assault victim who had been on life support since he was attacked in Osborne Village late last month died from his injuries.
Winnipeg police have arrested and charged Dorion Anthony Terrence Olson for the death of 56-year-old Richard Lauren Fehr, police said Thursday in a news release.
The 56-year-old died on Tuesday, police said. He had been hospitalized since the May 25 assault.
Fehr was found unconscious that Saturday night in a parking lot near the Liquor Mart at River Avenue and Osborne Street, where he was given emergency care before being taken to hospital. Police said then the person or people who attacked him fled before officers arrived.
There have been a number of violent incidents in the area over the previous several months, including a stabbing at the neighbouring Shoppers Drug Mart in November.
The Osborne Village Starbucks, which was next door the Liquor Mart, recently announced it was making what had been a temporary closure of its location there permanent. Safety concerns were part of the conversation leading to the closure, the company said, noting the security of its staff is "of utmost importance."
