Emergency crews were called to a natural gas leak in west-end Halifax on Wednesday morning that forced the temporary closure of sections of Bayers Road and Oxford Street.

Police issued an alert at about 11:30 a.m. AT warning motorists to stay away from the area and advising residents to close their windows as Heritage Gas capped the leak.

A traffic advisory issued an hour later said the area of Bayers Road from Windsor Street to Connolly Street had reopened to vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Oxford Street from Liverpool Street to Edgewood Avenue had also reopened, the advisory said.
