Woman, 77, seriously injured after being hit in Bedford crosswalk

Halifax Regional Police are investigating after a 77-year-old woman was hit by a car in a crosswalk in Bedford on Thursday morning. (Dave Laughlin/CBC)

A 77-year-old woman was taken to hospital early Thursday after she was hit by a car while walking in a marked crosswalk in Bedford, N.S.

The woman suffered serious injuries, said Const. Martin Cromwell, a spokesperson for Halifax Regional Police.

The woman was crossing Larry Uteck Boulevard near Kearney Lake Road when she was struck around 8 a.m. AT, police said in a news release.

The driver, a 52-year-old man, was issued a summary offence ticket for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, which carries a fine of $697.50. 

The incident remains under investigation.

Halifax Regional Police said there have been 33 pedestrian-vehicle collisions this year.
