Windsor police investigating 'suspicious' fire in Amherstburg — the 3rd at the home in 16 months
Police say a fire this weekend was the third in 16 months at the same location
An Amherstburg, Ont., home was once again damaged over the weekend in what Windsor police have deemed an arson.
The latest incident took place at around 5 a.m. Saturday morning, police said in a news release issued Monday, when officers responded to an active fire at a vacant house in the 200 block of Cowan Court.
The Amherstburg Fire Department quickly extinguished the blaze, and no physical injuries were reported, according to police.
However, the fire caused an estimated $750,000 in damages to the building and a neighbouring property.
Investigators believe that a black luxury SUV, which was observed in the area around the time of the arson, may be linked to the incident.
It is the third time in 16 months that the property has been the target of an intentional fire, police said.
In September 2023, a deliberate fire caused nearly $4 million in damages to the home and a second property.
The following September, another intentional blaze caused an estimated $1.6 million in damages.
They are urging nearby residents to review any surveillance or dashcam footage taken between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m. on Jan. 18, for potential evidence.
Police are asking anyone with information about the incidents to contact the arson unit. They can also provide tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
