Snow, freezing rain on the way for Windsor-Essex, Environment Canada says
Up to 10 cm of snow is possible Wednesday, the weather agency says
Environment Canada is advising people in Windsor-Essex, and much of the rest of Ontario, of the potential for heavy snow and freezing rain later this week.
According to a special weather statement Monday afternoon, the region could receive as much as 10 centimetres of snow Wednesday afternoon and evening into Thursday morning.
There's also the risk of freezing rain.
"Snowfall associated with a low pressure system is likely for the area beginning late Wednesday afternoon or evening," Environment Canada advised. "Confidence in the exact track of the low pressure system is uncertain at this point, but it is likely that snow will transition to freezing rain or rain later Wednesday night with temperatures expected to rise above the freezing mark."
The special weather statement is in place for Windsor-Essex and Leamington, as well as Chatham-Kent, Sarnia and Petrolia. Special weather statements are also in place for much of the rest of the province, stretching past the Greater Toronto Area to Ottawa.
Snowfall amounts could increase if the track of the low pressure system shifts south.
"Regardless of the track of the weather system, hazardous travel conditions are likely Wednesday evening and Wednesday night," the weather agency said in an advisory.
Drivers are asked to use caution and stay up to date on weather alerts.
