Get those shovels out, because more snow is on the way for Waterloo region, Guelph and Wellington County this week.

A special weather statement is in effect for most of southern Ontario, warning of a winter storm moving in late Wednesday and lasting into Thursday.

In Waterloo region and Guelph, snowfall amounts could exceed 15 centimetres, according to a release by Environment Canada issued on Monday afternoon.

"Significant snowfall associated with a low pressure system is likely for the area beginning Wednesday evening," the statement said.

There's some doubt as to the actual path of the storm system, but "it is likely that snow will transition to freezing rain or rain late Wednesday night or Thursday morning," the statement said.

"If the track of the low pressure system shifts farther south, precipitation will remain predominantly snow, and significantly higher amounts will be possible."

The weather agency said conditions will be hazardous for travel and urges drivers to consider postponing non-essential travel.
