Windsor police arrest suspects in Amerstburg arson
The house had been a target of three fires in the past 16 months
The Windsor Police Service says it has arrested two people in connection with a fire at an Amherstburg house that had repeatedly been targeted by arsonists.
Officers responded to a fire at the new-build house in the 200 block of Cowan Court at around 5 a.m. on Jan. 18.
It was the third time in 16 months that the property had been the target of an arson attack.
Nobody was physically injured in the latest incident.
But the fire caused more than $1 million in damages to the home and a neighbouring property.
Members of the Windsor Police arson unit launched an investigation and got footage of three suspects running from the property carrying gasoline cans and fleeing in a black luxury SUV.
They identified two of the men and issued arrest warrants for them.
Both of the men turned themselves in at Windsor Police headquarters on March 19.
Police are still asking anyone with information about the incident to call the Windsor Police arson unit at 519-255-6700, ext. 4330. They can also contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 519-258-8477 (TIPS) or http://catchcrooks.com.
