Man seriously injured, SIU investigating after Sarnia crash

Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is now investigating after a crash that seriously injured a 31-year-old man in Sarnia Thursday afternoon.

The crash was reported Thursday around 4:30 p.m.

Ontario's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is now investigating after a crash that seriously injured a 31-year-old man in Sarnia Thursday afternoon.

Police had initially said a crash closed the area of London Road and Montcalm Avenue and asked drivers to avoid the area.

An SIU spokesperson said preliminary information indicates a 31-year-old on a motorcycle crashed into another vehicle at the intersection, after allegedly fleeing when a police officer in a marked vehicle attempted to pull him over.

"The male motorcyclist was taken to hospital with serious injuries," a spokesperson said. "No other serious injuries were reported."

On Friday, police said the road had since reopened, but the investigation had been taken over by the SIU.

The SIU investigates actions of the police that result in serious injury, death, the discharge of a firearm or sexual assault allegations in Ontario.

Sarnia police said they were unable to provide further information given the SIU investigation.
