Woman from carjacking in North Battleford, Sask., found safe inside home in the city

A 33-year-old woman who was missing after a carjacking in North Battleford is safe and sound.

RCMP say the woman was found safe in a home Friday afternoon on St. Laurent Drive, the same street where the stolen red Pontiac Grand Prix had been found in the morning.

The incident began around 5 a.m. CST when a man approached two women in a car on Railway Avenue East, police said in a news release. The man threatened the women and stole the vehicle, with the 33-year-old woman inside. The other woman was not hurt, police said.

Officers did not believe the 33-year-old woman knew the suspect, the news release said.

In an update later Friday morning, police said they were treating the case as a kidnapping, and asked businesses and homeowners in the area of St. Laurent Drive to check their surveillance cameras for any images of the car and the people inside.

Then in another update, police announced the woman had been found safe inside a home at 1:25 p.m. CST.
