One week after she was found gravely injured on the side of a quiet road on the outskirts of Saskatoon, friends and family will say goodbye to Brittney Jane Gargol.

The funeral is being held this afternoon.

Gargol's death is being investigated by police as a homicide.

Today, in response to questions from CBC News a police spokesperson replied by email that "investigators have determined the cause of death but are not releasing that information at this time." And added that "Major Crimes investigators are compiling information and continuing to pursue numerous avenues of investigation."

A passerby found the 18-year-old badly injured in a ditch just past Saskatoon's landfill. Gargol died in the hospital.

The discovery prompted police to release photos of her distinctive tattoos requesting help from the public in trying to identify the young woman. Tips flooded in.

Since then police have said little publicly about the investigation into the killing.
