Brittney Jane Gargol died shortly after she was discovered Wednesday

CBC News has confirmed the identity of the young woman found injured on the outskirts of Saskatoon as Brittney Gargol. (Facebook)

The identity of a fatally injured woman who was found by a passerby early Wednesday morning is now known.

Yesterday evening, people began posting on the Saskatoon Police Facebook page saying they know the young woman.

In a news release, police said the public assistance helped them make a positive identification.

CBC News has now confirmed the victim was Brittney Jane Gargol.

Police described Gargol as approximately 20 to 35 years old, wearing a black leather style jacket and a distinctive watch.

Police also released photos of two tattoos on the victim's body: Two stars on her left hand, and a lion tattoo on her left shoulder blade.

Police continue to call this a suspicious death, but have released no other details.
