Man beaten, critically hurt on Nepean Street in Centretown
Lone suspect under arrest in early-morning assault, police say
UPDATE | On Jan. 16, Ottawa police announced a 60-year-old man has been charged with aggravated assault and assault with a weapon. The alleged assault occurred at a residence, police said.
Ottawa police and paramedics say a man was severely beaten on Nepean Street between Bank and Kent streets early Wednesday morning and the lone suspect is under arrest.
An Ottawa paramedic spokesperson told CBC they were called to the downtown block around 4:30 a.m. and found a man injured by a blunt object.
He was in critical condition when he arrived in hospital, police said.
An Ottawa police inspector posted on social media about the incident, calling it an aggravated assault leading to one arrest. Police aren't looking for other suspects, they said.
The scene is about 800 metres south of Parliament Hill.
