Toronto police are asking the public for help finding a suspect after a hit and run in Etobicoke Sunday morning left a man in hospital with critical injuries.

Just before 2:30 a.m., police responded to calls about a collision near Evans Avenue and Royal York Road involving a pedestrian and a driver who failed to remain at the scene, according to a Toronto police news release.

A 29-year-old man was hit by a motorist travelling northbound on Royal York Road, police say. He was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

There is no description of the suspect vehicle, police say, but the driver was last seen headed westbound on Evans Avenue.

Police have started an investigation and are asking anyone with more information, or with security or dashcam footage of the area around the time of the incident, to contact them at 416-808-1900. Anonymous tips can also be left with Crime Stoppers.

Roads in the area were closed for part of Sunday morning, but police say they have since reopened.
