Shots fired in N.L. standoff: RCMP
Police in eastern Newfoundland said Tuesday that bullets were fired from a house involved in a three-day standoff in a small town south of St. John's.
Bullets were fired Monday night and Tuesday morning from a house in Bay Bulls, about 30 kilometres south of St. John's, where a man had barricaded himself on Saturday.
The shots were aimed at a robot the police were using outside the house to deliver messages.
RCMP said Tuesday that a warrant has been issued for the arrest of Leo Crockwell, 55.
Sgt. Boyd Merrill said Crockwell has also been charged in court with uttering threats, assault with a weapon, assault and two firearms charges.
"Police have made numerous attempts to communicate with this man since Saturday to peacefully resolve the matter to no avail," Merrill said in a statement.
Officers have tried to engage the man through phone calls, letters and even a loudspeaker. Unable to communicate with Crockwell, police have refused to use force and instead have been waiting for him to respond.
The standoff began Saturday after the man reportedly threatened family members.
