A standoff between police and a man they said had barricaded himself in a home continued in a town south of St. John's Monday morning.

RCMP said the man, 55, wouldn't engage with police since he made threats to family members on Saturday morning in Bay Bulls.

Police have brought in negotiators, although they have not been able to contact the man, an official said.

Police were concerned about spectators in the community, about 30 kilometres south of St. John's.

While police did not say the man is armed, they acknowledged he has access to weapons.

The man was alone in the house, police said.
