Police in a small community south of St. John's were locked in a waiting game early Sunday evening with a man who they said had barricaded himself in a home.

RCMP said the man, 55, wouldn't engage with police since he made threats to family members on Saturday in Bay Bulls.

Police have brought in negotiators, although they have not been able to contact the individual, an official said.

Police were concerned about spectators in the community, about 30 kilometres south of St. John's.

While police didn't say the man is armed, they acknowledged he has access to weapons.

The man was alone in the house, police said.
