Wellington-Halton Hills: Riding to elect first new MPP in decades

Ted Arnott, who has represented this area since 1990, is not running in the current provincial election. That means Wellington-Halton Hills will get a new MPP. There are seven candidates vying for the seat.

For the first time since 1990, a new MPP will be chosen for the riding of Wellington-Halton Hills after long-time MPP Ted Arnott announced he would not seek re-election.

Arnott was first elected to the riding of Wellington on Sept. 6, 1990. He announced in October 2024 he had decided not to run in the next provincial election. Arnott served two terms as Speaker of the Ontario Legislature.

The candidates in Wellington-Halton Hills are (in alphabetical order by last name):

  • Alex Hilson, Liberal.
  • Simone Kent, NDP.
  • Stephen Kitras, New Blue Party.
  • Jason Medland, Ontario Party.
  • Ron Patava, Consensus Party.
  • Joseph Racinsky, Progressive Conservatives.
  • Bronwynne Wilton, Green.

Riding history

Arnott was 27 when he won the seat of Wellington in Sept. 1990.

During his time as MPP, the riding's boundaries changed three times from Wellington to Waterloo-Wellington in 1999 and then in 2007 it became the current riding of Wellington-Halton Hills.
