Waterloo police have charged a 21-year-old man with careless driving in connection with a collision last month that left a teenager driving a horse and buggy with serious injuries.

The collision occurred on March 23 in Wellesley Township, Waterloo Regional Police said in a Saturday news release.

Emergency services responded to reports of a crash between a car and a horse drawn buggy on Greenwood Hill Road at about 9 a.m. that morning, the news release said.

The driver of the buggy, 14, was airlifted to an out-of-region hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police said, and the driver of the car was not injured. Both were residents of Wellesley Township.

Waterloo Regional Police Service say their traffic unit charged the driver of the car with careless driving after investigating the crash. The charges have not yet been proven in court.

Police are encouraging anyone who may have witnessed the collision or might have dashcam footage to call police at 519-570-9777, extension 8856 or provide anonymous information with Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-8477.
