Muscle car reached 213 km/h on Winnipeg street before October crash, police say

A 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an October crash in Winnipeg in which a car going 158 km/h slammed into a hydro pole, guardrail, street sign and building before finally coming to a halt.

A 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an October crash in Winnipeg in which a car going 158 km/h slammed into a hydro pole, guardrail, street sign and building before finally coming to a halt.

The 2009 Dodge Charger SRT8 reached 213 km/hr just moments before impact, investigators said.

Police said in a news release Wednesday that it miraculous no one was injured.

The crash happened around 2 a.m. Oct. 15, at a bend along St. Mary's Road near Morier Avenue. The posted speed limit along that stretch is 60 km/h.

The car ripped through the guardrail and pole in front of Midland Appliance World, which was also damaged.

The two occupants of the Charger ran from the scene before police arrived.

Investigators identified a suspect and arrested him at his home on Monday. He faces a charge of dangerous driving.
