Scott Miller named new director of education with Waterloo Region District School Board
Miller had been filling role on an interim basis since early December
The Waterloo Region District School board has appointed Scott Miller as the new director of education.
Miller took on the job on an interim basis in early December after the board announced jeewan chanicka was no longer on the job. The board never gave a reason why chanicka was removed .
Miller, who is a graduate of the Waterloo Region District School Board, began his career with the board in 1995 and says it's an honour to be appointed to the role.
"Throughout my almost 30 year career in the WRDSB, I have had the privilege of working with incredible staff, parents, families and community partners to help students encounter success and open pathways to their futures," Miller said in a statement.
"I look forward to what lies ahead as we collectively work together as trustees, staff, parents, families and community to ensure WRDSB students are achieving their full potential, feeling a sense of belonging and realizing success for all."
Scott Miller started working with the school board as a teacher at the elementary school level before moving to the secondary classroom. He later became an elementary principal and vice-principal before moving into administrative roles.
Most recently, Miller worked at the education centre in various areas including student achievement and well-being, mental health and special education.
Maedith Radlein, the chair of the board of trustees, said in a statement that the board looks "forward to a partnership that enhances the quality of public education."
"Scott will support the organization and the multi-year strategic plan, while providing leadership in the service of students, staff, parents, families and caregivers," Radlein said.
"The board of trustees is deeply appreciative of his commitment to the WRDSB and to the present and future success of all our students."
