Gunshot reports in Kitchener 6th one this year for police

Police were called to the area of Kinzie and Thaler avenues in Kitchener on Monday evening for reports of multiple gunshots. The Waterloo Regional Police Service says this is the sixth call to a shooting this year.

Police are investigating after they received multiple reports of gunshots the area of Kinzie and Thaler avenues in Kitchener Monday night.

The calls were made to the police service around 7:40 p.m. and when officers arrived on scene in the city's southeast near Chicopee, they found evidence a firearm had been discharged, the Waterloo Regional Police Service said.

Police said there were reports people fled the area before officers arrived and there was no evidence anyone was injured.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information, including dash-cam footage or surveillance video, is asked to call police at 519-570-9777 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Const. André Johnson said so far this year, police have responded to six shootings in the region.

Compared to the previous two years:

  • By July 10, 2020, there were six shootings and 15 overall for the year.
  • By July 25, 2019, there were 13 shootings and 21 overall for the year.
