Three people are in hospital with serious injuries and one person has been arrested following a shooting in Kitchener Thursday evening, police say.

Three people are in hospital with serious injuries and one person has been arrested following a shooting in Kitchener Thursday evening.

Waterloo regional police said officers were called to the area of Overlea Drive in Kitchener just after 9:30 p.m. for reports of shots being fired. Overlea Drive is in the Forest Hill neighbourhood near the Highland Park Shopping Centre.

Police said it appears to be a targeted shooting.

A 26-year-old Milton man and a 19-year-old Kitchener man were found with gunshot wounds. A third man, a 26-year-old from Brampton, was also located by officers and had gunshot wounds.

"Police believe that a group of individuals arrived in a vehicle and a home invasion occurred. Two males entered the residence and multiple firearms were discharged while inside the residence," police said in a release Friday morning.

The 26-year-old Brampton man has been arrested. Police said further arrests are anticipated.

The investigation is ongoing and it's expected there will be a "heavy police presence in the area" on Friday.
