Kitchener-Waterloo

Kate's 5 fun things to do in and around Waterloo region this weekend: Jan. 10 to 12

Music Weekends are back in downtown Guelph, take in a comedy show or visit your local library and learn to crochet or trade Pokémon cards.

With warmer temperatures, it could be a good weekend to be outside

City of Kitchener workers spray water on an outdoor rink in Victoria Park earlier this week. The city says it hopes to have the rink open on Sunday. If it's not ready, people can also skate at the rink in front of city hall. (Kate Bueckert/CBC)

It won't be quite as cold this weekend as it was earlier this week, which means it might be a good time to get outside and enjoy some winter activities like skiing at Chicopee, cross country skiing at a local conservation area, tobogganing on a neighbourhood hill, going for a hike or skating at an outdoor rink.

City staff in Kitchener were flooding a section of Victoria Park this week for a rink near the clock tower. If all goes according to plan, the rink is expected to be open on Sunday.

The K-W Titans basketball team is not playing this weekend. Their next home game is Jan. 19.

The Kitchener Rangers are busy with three games this weekend, two of them at home. On Friday, they host the Brampton Steelheads. Then on Saturday they're on the road to take on the Barrie Colts. Sunday they're back at The Aud to host the Saginaw Spirit.

The Guelph Storm are on the road this weekend with games in Flint, Mich., on Friday and against the Soo Greyhounds on Saturday.

If you need to drive, here are some local gas prices:
