Police name victims of city's two latest homicides

Two males, 18 and 68, were named Tuesday as the victims of Edmonton's latest homicides

Edmonton police named the two victims of Edmonton's latest homicides on Tuesday.

Jose Rodriguez, 68, was identified as the man found dead inside a walk-up apartment at 83rd Street and Jasper Avenue around 10:20 a.m. Monday.

Rodriguez was found after his employer contacted the building caretaker over concerns he hadn’t shown up for work since last Wednesday.

Police say Rodriguez had been stabbed and his death has been ruled a homicide.

Shane Kyle Bird, 18, was stabbed during a fight in the Oliver neighbourhood early Monday morning.

He was found unconscious and bleeding at the corner of 114th Street and Jasper Avenue after witnesses called police just after 1 a.m.  He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Homicide Staff Sgt. Bill Clark said that Bird died from a stab wound to the upper chest.

"That incident involved two males who were fighting that escalated," Clark said. "This is not a random act. We have identified a suspect."

On May 30, the body of Curtis Raymond Dugray, 51, was found in a park near 99th Avenue and 111th Street. His death was also ruled a homicide.

Police have identified two persons of interest in his death.

However, police say the three deaths are not connected.
