Lucic put on injured reserve

The Boston Bruins placed forward Milan Lucic on long-term injured reserve Sunday due to a broken finger.

The Boston Bruins placed forward Milan Lucic on long-term injured reserve Sunday due to a broken finger.

Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli didn't reveal how long Lucic will be out, but under NHL rules a player on injured reserve can't return for at least seven days after being hurt.

Lucic didn't dress for Boston's 4-1 loss Saturday night in Phoenix after the big winger was hurt in a 3-0 win in Dallas on Friday.

Coach Claude Julien said Saturday he wasn't sure exactly which digit Lucic injured, but suspected it was the right index finger.

Lucic, 21, has yet to score in six games this season, his third in the NHL, after netting a career-high 17 goals in 2008-09. The Bruins inked him to a three-year extension worth more than $12 million US over the summer.

Lucic's lineup spot for the Phoenix game was filled on an emergency basis by Guillaume Lefebvre, who on Sunday went back down to the minors to play for Providence of the AHL, then later got an official recall from the Bruins.

Fellow forwards Brad Marchand and Vladimir Sobotka were also called up from the minors on Sunday.
