More than 600 Windsor-Essex secondary students suspended over incomplete vaccine records
129 elementary students also remain suspended, the health unit says
The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit (WECHU) says 618 secondary school students have been suspended from classes due to incomplete immunization records.
And 129 elementary students remain suspended.
High school students had to have completed their vaccinations and updated their records by March 13 or face suspension starting March 17.
Elementary students had to have their records updated by Feb. 27.
Those who did not have been suspended since March 3.
"Students who have been suspended are required to provide the WECHU with records for missing immunizations and/or a valid exemption," the health unit said in a news release issued Monday.
Approximately 97 per cent of high school students in the county have complete vaccination records, the health unit said.
Just three per cent are outstanding.
The numbers have dropped significantly from Feb. 24, when 1,493 secondary students and 1,700 elementary students still had missing records.
Officials began reviewing more than 20,000 high school immunization records in the fall of 2024
