Man charged in fatal 2024 shooting in Vaughan, Ont.

A 33-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of Jorge-Ivan Navas, who was shot in his driveway last summer. Police say at least one suspect remains outstanding.

A man has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with a shooting that took place last August in a driveway in Vaughan, Ont., York police say. 

A 33-year-old man from Barrie was arrested last week and charged in connection with the death of 57-year-old Jorge-Ivan Navas, police said in a news release Wednesday. He was arrested last week.

Around 2 p.m. on Aug. 9, 2024, police say they responded to reports of gunfire in the area of Islington and Kiloran avenues. Officers found Navas in his driveway, suffering from gunshot wounds. He later died in hospital.

Investigators learned that two suspects had been driving a stolen black F-150. Police say at least one suspect remains outstanding. The vehicle has since been recovered, police say.

The investigation is ongoing.
