Two people have been arrested and charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a Brampton man last April, Peel Regional Police say.

On the morning of April 5, 30-year-old Jevon Harris-Smith was shot dead on the front step of his home in the area of Sudeley Lane and Finegan Circle. Two suspects fled the scene in a vehicle later determined to be stolen, police said in a news release Thursday.

Police say investigators have determined that Harris-Smith was not the shooters' intended target.

A 24-year-old man from Toronto was arrested Wednesday, police say. He has been charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to obstruct justice.

Investigators arrested a youth in connection with the case last May, who is also charged with first-degree murder, police say. The identity of the accused is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Both were held for bail hearings and attended court in Brampton, police say.

Investigators are asking anyone with more information or video related to the homicide to come forward.
