Police have upgraded charges against a man connected with a fatal stabbing in Scarborough last October to first-degree murder and attempted murder.
Toronto police said the stabbing happened in the area of Midland Avenue and Eglinton Avenue E. on Oct. 14. Police were called to the area at about 2:25 a.m.
Officers arrived to find a man with stab wounds. He was taken to hospital in serious condition and later released, but died on Oct. 31.
Police have since identified the victim as Ronald White, 65, of Toronto.
Police announced the upgraded charges in a news release Wednesday, saying "a post-mortem examination revealed that the victim had died as a result of complications from the injuries sustained in the stabbing."
A 47-year-old Toronto man was originally charged with: carrying a concealed weapon; assault with a weapon; aggravated assault; possession of a weapon; possession of proceeds obtained by crime over $5,000; and trafficking in a scheduled substance.
He was originally due to appear in court last November and was due back in court on Wednesday.
White was the city's 86th homicide victim of the year.
