16-year-old driver charged in August crash that killed Brampton pedestrian
Accused had a Class G1 license at the time of the crash, OPP say

A 16-year-old driver has been charged after a pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle in Brampton in August, Ontario Provincial Police said.
The crash happened just before 1 a.m. on Mayfield Road near McLaughlin Road on Aug. 27, 2024, OPP said in a news release Friday. A 60-year-old from Brampton was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police arrested the accused, who is also from Brampton, on Thursday, the release said.
They have been charged with failure to stop at an accident resulting in death, as well as driving at an unlawful hour and driving unaccompanied by a qualified driver as is required for a Class G1 license driver.
The accused was held for a bail hearing. Their identity is being withheld under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, police said.
Police say the investigation is ongoing. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact police or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers.
