An admission fee could be coming for the new Remai Modern Art Gallery.

A report written by the gallery asks that a general admission fee of $12 be charged, with a fee of $16 applying to special exhibitions.

Students and seniors would receive a reduced rate. Children 12 years and younger would get in for free.

"It is important that Remai Modern generate revenues to support and sustain operations into the future," reads the report.

The report goes on to note that " an admission charge will provide a quantifiable and tangible reason for Saskatoon individuals and families to purchase an annual membership to Remai Modern."

It also states that offering free admission to children " provides Remai Modern with a valuable marketing tool...and will be a key component to drive sponsorships."

The Mendel Art Gallery does not charge admission, and only asks that people make a donation.

The City of Saskatoon Executive Committee will receive the report at its meeting today.
