Kings County hospital ER closing early due to reduced staffing

The emergency department at Kings County Memorial Hospital is closing early Monday due to reduced staffing levels, Health P.E.I. says.

The emergency department at the Kings County Memorial Hospital has had to close until at least Saturday morning because of a COVID-19 outbreak, Health PEI said on Friday.

The emergency department at Kings County Memorial Hospital closed early Monday night due to reduced staffing levels, Health P.E.I. says. 

In a news release issued late in the day, the agency said the Montague hospital's ER was closing at 6:30 p.m., and is expected to reopen Tuesday, March 25 at 8 a.m. 

Anyone with emergency medical needs is advised to call 911 or seek emergency services when:

  • Experiencing discomfort or tightness in the chest; 
  • Experiencing unusual shortness of breath; 
  • Experiencing severe or persistent abdominal pain; 
  • Experiencing prolonged and persistent headache or dizziness; 
  • An injury may require stitches or involve a broken bone; 
  • A child has prolonged diarrhea or vomiting; or 
  • A baby under six months of age has a fever of 38°C (100.4°F) or higher. 

Anyone with health concerns or who needs immediate health information should call 811 to speak to an experienced registered nurse.
