Harness racing enjoys great year at Red Shores
A typical Thursday or Saturday night saw 1,000 people come through the doors
The 2014 year has been a good one for the harness racing industry, says employees at the Red Shores Racetrack and Casino.
"The industry is very strong here in Prince Edward Island. We have a large fan base and a lot of heritage here within the industry," said Adam Walsh, the racing experience manager at Red Shores.
Walsh said that attendance was consistent and that on an average Thursday or Saturday night throughout the summer, about 1,000 people came through the doors.
Red Shores’ manager of sales and marketing says the great year started with hosting the O’Brien Awards in February, an awards ceremony for the harness racing industry in Canada.
"Then we had the regional driving championship and the national driving championship,” said Lee Drake.
Along with other events — such as Old Home Week — it all added up to a great year.
