'Always had a good breakfast,' says centenarian
The latest census shows there are a record 6,000 Canadians who are at least 100 years old.
Statistics Canada says that number is quickly rising. With 35 centenarians, P.E.I. has more than its share.
Arnold MacDonald of Nine Mile Creek, P.E.I. joined the centenarian club in October. MacDonald believes a combination of things have contributed to his longevity.
"Always had a good breakfast, I guess that's the main thing. Between that and pills it's keeping me going," he said.
"Good women too. I like the women, always did."
With 21.4 centenarians per 100,000 population, P.E.I.'s average is well of above the 17.4 per 100,000 in Canada. Both Nova Scotia and New Brunswick have higher rates of people making it to 100, however. The highest rate is in Saskatchewan, with 31 per 100,000.
