Off-duty Amherst police officer charged with drunk driving, weapons offences
Man provided breath samples to RCMP which were three times the legal limit
An off-duty Amherst police officer has been charged with drunk driving and firearms offences following an incident at a restaurant in Oxford, N.S.
RCMP were called to the restaurant on Sunday evening for a report of an intoxicated man.
Sgt. Christopher Lamert Jobe, 42, was showing signs of impairment and had driven to the restaurant, police said.
He was arrested and RCMP found a loaded handgun when they searched him. RCMP said it was not a service weapon.
Jobe was taken to the Oxford RCMP detachment and provided breath samples which were three times the legal limit.
Jobe has been charged with possession of a prohibited firearm, carrying a concealed weapon and careless use of a firearm, among other offences.
He is scheduled to appear in court in Amherst in April.
In a separate release, Nova Scotia's police watchdog, the Serious Incident Response Team, said it supervised the RCMP investigation of this incident and agreed with the Mounties' handling of the case.
Amherst police say Jobe has been placed on suspension. A spokesperson for the town of Amherst said Jobe has not been on active duty or at work for the past several months.
