Police in Whitehorse are investigating after a shooting in the city's Riverdale neighbourhood sent one person to hospital.

It happened Sunday night on Selkirk Street when RCMP were called to a report of gunshots in the area.

Insp. Kent Langley said a teenage male was sent to hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening. He said there's still a lot investigators are trying to piece together.

"Unfortunately, we're still trying to determine all of the circumstances," he said. "So I'm not able to get into specific numbers of people that were involved at this point."

Langley said the shooting took place outside, not in a home. Selkirk Street is partially closed to traffic and mostly flanked by institutional buildings, a school and green space.

Nobody has been arrested in connection with the shooting. Langley said police are interviewing witnesses, but they're also seeking the public's help with information.

Police are asking anyone with dash cam or security footage to contact Whitehorse RCMP or Crimestoppers.
