There was a fire at Sunridge Place apartments in Yellowknife on Thursday afternoon.

At 3 p.m., smoke could be seen pouring out of one of the buildings in the apartment complex on 51a Street, and multiple emergency vehicles were at the scene.

RCMP told CBC they received a report of a fire at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, and sent officers to assist in the response.

The spokesperson said they had no information about the cause of the fire.

Sunridge Place is owned by Northview Residential REIT. CBC News called the company on Thursday afternoon and was told no one in the office was available to comment and that all managers were on site at the property.

It's not clear if any residents of the apartment building may be displaced. CBC has reached out to the City of Yellowknife for information on the fire.

Several apartments in Sunridge are public units, meaning the rents are subsidized by the territorial government. CBC has asked the N.W.T. Housing Corporation if those units have been impacted and whether tenants may need to be moved.
