Company that owns Whitehorse's Days Inn planning to buy 180-room downtown hotel

Holloway Lodging Corporation, which owns Whitehorse's Day Inn, is in the process of buying Holland America's Westmark Hotel.

Whitehorse's biggest hotel is about to change hands.

A publicly-traded company has an agreement to buy the Westmark hotel in downtown Whitehorse, currently owned by Holland America Line. The cruise ship company brings tourists to its Whitehorse hotel by bus from Skagway, Alaska, and Dawson City, Yukon.

Michael Rapps, chairman of Holloway Lodging Corporation, has confirmed the company wants to buy the 180-roomWestmark Hotel and Conference Centre. Holloway already owns the Days Inn in Whitehorse, which it bought last year.

Rapps says a number of conditions now have to be met, including an inspection of the Westmark building. He says if everything checks out, the sale should be finalized by around mid-March.

Holland America is advertising its 2016 tours to Whitehorse.

Holland America sold its Westmark hotel in Beaver Creek more than two years ago, after it changed its itinerary to fly its guests between Fairbanks and Dawson City instead of busing them.
