What are you at? This is it: Model boat building
Cory Corcoran of Grande Prairie has taken up his grandfather's hobby
Cory Corcoran says his late grandfather, Tom Corcoran, of Riverhead, St. Mary's Bay, was his idol.
"My pop was one of the last great 'gentlemen.'" said Corcoran. "He was a fisherman, a carpenter, a boat builder, and so much more."
Corcoran's grandfather was known for his model dories and other boats.
Corcoran spent a lot of time when he was a boy in his grandfather's shed, helping him with various woodworking and small construction projects.
"I remember when I was five or six years old, I built a lobster pot, an actual lobster pot with him," said Corcoran.
When Tom Corcoran passed away in February 2015, Cory Corcoran inherited some of his grandfather's boat building molds, and brought them back with him to his current home in Grande Prairie, Alta.
He's now taken up model boat building as a way of honouring his grandfather.
Corcoran enjoys spending time in his own shed in landlocked Grande Prairie, working on his own model boats.
It brings me back to home, it brings back memories of fishing, and being out in boat with my grandfather and being out in boat with my dad," said Corcoran.
"It keeps me connected to the province."
