A Doaktown man has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the death of a woman in Moncton last year.

Dylan Alexander Jackson had been facing a charge of second-degree murder and was set to stand trial in the spring.

It was alleged he killed 32-year-old Kyla LaPointe on July 11, 2023.

Defence lawyer Alex Pate confirmed to CBC News that Jackson entered a guilty plea to the lesser charge of manslaughter last week.

A sentencing hearing has been scheduled for March 11.

Last year, RCMP said police responded to a report of a disturbance on Belleview Avenue at around 2:45 a.m. on July 11, 2023. Officers found LaPointe with multiple stab wounds. She died in hospital.

Jackson was among three people charged in connection with her death.

Megan Marten of Fredericton is scheduled to be tried for second-degree murder next year.

The Crown withdrew a second-degree murder charge against Dana Mundell of Fredericton earlier this year.
