Devin Morningstar to stand trial in death of Baylee Wylie
8 weeks set aside starting on Oct. 18 for trial on charge of 1st-degree murder
One of three young people charged with first-degree murder in the death of Baylee Wylie will stand trial starting Oct. 18.
Devin Morningstar, 18, appeared in Moncton court on Monday. He previously waived his right to a preliminary hearing, choosing to go directly to trial.
The court has set aside eight weeks for Morningstar's trial in the fall.
Morningstar, Tyler Noel, 18, and Marissa Shephard, 20, are all charged with first-degree murder in the death of Wylie.
The 18-year-old Riverview teen's body was found after an early morning fire in a triplex on Sumac Street on Dec. 17.
RCMP called Wylie's death "extremely violent" but have not released any details.
Others due in court
He is charged with first-degree murder and arson.
Noel eluded police for three weeks, and was arrested with two other men in Petitcodiac after RCMP received a report of a break and enter at a cottage in Elgin.
He is facing additional charges of:
- Unlawfully entering a dwelling house with the intention fo committing an offence.
- Possessing a .22 calibre rifle for a purpose dangerous to the public.
- Two counts of possessing a .22 calibre rifle knowing that it was property obtained by crime.
- Breaching a court order not to own, possess or carry any weapons.
Shephard was arrested March 1 after evading police for 10 weeks.
She was subject to a Canada-wide warrant for first-degree murder and arson in connection with Wylie's death.
Shepherd made a brief court appearance on March 2 and is due back in court on March 18.
