One person is dead and several others were injured after a head-on collision involving a minibus and an SUV in the Montérégie.

Sûreté du Québec spokesperson Camille Savoie said the deadly crash happened at around 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday on Route 209 in Saint-Rémi, Que.

Savoie said the minibus, that was carrying 10 people, was heading south when it is believed to have veered out of its lane and into oncoming traffic.

One person was killed and seven others were injured, including two who suffered life-threatening injuries. On Thursday, police said their lives were no longer in danger.

Savoie said the person who died and all of those who were injured were onboard the bus. The people who were injured were all taken to hospital for treatment.

According to police, the SUV's driver was alone in the vehicle and suffered minor injuries.

Following the crash, Route 209, which is also called Rang Notre-Dame in Saint-Rémi, was closed off to allow for the investigation.

Savoie said weather conditions may have contributed to the crash.
