Quebec reaches tentative deal with union representing school support staff
Agreement outlines working conditions for 30,000 workers but not a collective agreement
Quebec has struck a tentative deal over working conditions with a labour federation that represents thousands of public sector employees, after months of stalled negotiations.
The FEESP-CSN represents support staff employees in some schools and CEGEPs across Quebec as well as municipal workers.
"We succeeded at loosening staff movement," said union president Daneille Beaulieu.
"We succeeded at making it such that our staff have access more quickly and easily at the best shifts."
The tentative deal, announced Monday, does not include salary negotiations. It was reached over the weekend during a negotiation blitz between unions and the Quebec government.
The FEESP-CSN includes 30,000 support staff workers in 31 French-language school boards and two English-language school boards.
The details of the possible deal haven't been announced. Public sector workers have been without a contract since April.
Quebec teachers still haven't reached a deal with the government.
