Montreal police have arrested two 17-year-olds in connection with two separate assaults of men in their 50s in the Metro system Thursday evening.

At around 8:30 p.m., police say they received a call about an injured man found in a Metro train by an STM agent at Frontenac station. He had blood on his face.

According to Montreal police spokesperson Raphaël Bergeron, the victim reported the attack occurred at Radisson  station.

"We went over there and talked with the victim who didn't want to talk too much about it," said Bergeron. "We couldn't force him so we decided to go."

Bergeron says surveillance footage confirmed that two young suspects attacked the man.

Later that night, police received another call about a second assault on a man at Frontenac station.

"The guy was attacked randomly by two young persons, probably teenagers that jumped on him and punched him and kicked him," Bergeron said. "The man was a bit confused due to the punches that he received."

The victim was transported to hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Bergeron said the attacks followed a similar pattern, with one of the men lying in the Metro station before being beaten.

He adds that police later received information from an STM security surveillance agent that the two suspects in both attacks were at Beaudry station.

Officers arrested the teenagers, who were taken to a detention centre and interviewed by an investigator.

They are set to face several charges, including assault causing bodily harm.
