A 16-year-old girl has been charged with assault after another 16-year-old girl was beaten up until she lost consciousness near Seven Oaks Hospital on the weekend, Winnipeg police say.

A 16-year-old girl has been charged with assault after another 16-year-old girl was beaten up until she lost consciousness near Seven Oaks Hospital on the weekend, Winnipeg police say.

Officers responded to a report of an assault in the parking lot of a business near McPhillips Street and Leila Avenue around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, police said in a news release.

A 16-year-old girl told police she was walking in the area when she was suddenly confronted by her another teen, who kicked and punched her until she lost consciousness.

The attacker fled the area. The injured teen was taken to hospital in stable condition and received treatment for her injuries.

Police arrested a 16-year-old girl on Sunday in connection with the attack and charged her with assault.

The teen was released on an undertaking and into the care of an adult.
