One person was taken to hospital in unstable condition after a Friday evening fire caused heavy damage at a home in Winnipeg's Tyndall Park area.

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service was called to a home on the 100 block of Kinver Avenue, just west of Keewatin Street, shortly before 5 p.m., a city news release said.

Paramedics treated one person at the scene who was then taken to hospital, while firefighters began a defensive attack to fight the blaze. The fire was declared under control shortly after 8 p.m.

The city's emergency social services team was also called in to support displaced residents, the release said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation and no damage estimates are available at this time.
