Passengers assaulted in 2 separate incidents on city buses Sunday: Winnipeg police
No arrest made after stabbing that left man in hospital
A Winnipeg transit rider was stabbed and taken to hospital and another was also physically assaulted after two separate incidents on city buses Sunday, police said.
Officers responded to a report of an assault on a transit bus around Disraeli Freeway and Henry Avenue, at the edge of South Point Douglas, at around 10:25 p.m. on Sunday, city police said in a release Monday afternoon.
Police said a 31-year-old passenger was physically assaulted after he saw two men making unwanted advances on a 20-year-old woman, and intervened. The two suspects then attempted to steal his property before getting off the bus near Disraeli Freeway and Martha Street, the release said.
In the early hours of Sunday, police had also responded to a stabbing onboard a bus around Morley Avenue and Hugo Street South, in South Osborne.
Police said a 22-year-old man was taken to hospital with a serious upper-body injury after that attack. It said several suspects fled before police responded to the incident, which happened shortly after midnight.
The release said the victim had also intervened in an incident, this time involving a verbal confrontation between a 23-year-old woman and a group of female suspects.
Police said no one has been arrested in relation to the stabbing, and the investigation is still ongoing.
Two men, 36 and 28, face two charges of robbery each in relation to the Sunday evening incident in Point Douglas. The 36-year-old was detained in custody waiting disposition, while the 28-year-old was released on an undertaking, police said.
Neither the woman nor the male passenger who intervened in the incident required medical attention after that assault, police said.
Police also announced Monday they'd made two arrests on a stabbing on a transit bus that happened around Portage and Main earlier this month.
A 21-year-old man has been charged with robbery, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon, and failing to comply with condition of release order in relation to the stabbing of another 21-year-old man on April 2. A 16-year-old is also facing similar charges, police said.
Both suspects were arrested on Saturday.
