A second man has been charged in the kidnapping and sexual assault of a teenage girl in Winnipeg's Sturgeon Creek area in September.

The girl was kidnapped at knifepoint around 11:40 p.m. on Sept. 25 from Portage Avenue near Sturgeon Road, police previously said.

Her abductor then drove her to a location in the city's Spence neighbourhood, where she was sexually assaulted over several hours.

The girl eventually got away and used a passerby's cellphone to call police.

A 40-year-old man was arrested at the end of September and charged with multiple offences, including kidnapping, sexual assault, forcible confinement, assault by choking, suffocating or strangling, and administering a noxious substance.

Police said Thursday in a news release that they recently arrested a second man, 39.

He has been charged with sexual assault and detained in custody.
