Teen abducted at knifepoint, sexually assaulted, Winnipeg police say

A teenage girl was abducted while walking on Portage Avenue in Winnipeg's St. James area, then taken to another part of the city and sexually assaulted over several hours, police say.

A teenage girl was abducted while walking on Portage Avenue in Winnipeg's Sturgeon Creek area, then taken to another part of the city and sexually assaulted over several hours, police say.

The girl was kidnapped at knifepoint around 11:40 p.m. on Sept. 24 from Portage near Sturgeon Road.

Her abductor then drove her to a location in the city's Spence neighbourhood, police said in a news release on Friday.

The girl eventually managed to get away and use a passerby's cellphone to call police.

A 40-year-old man has been charged with multiple offences, including kidnapping, sexual assault, forcible confinement, assault by choking, suffocating or strangling, administering a noxious substance, mischief and failing to comply with a probation order.

Police provided no further information about the abduction or the girl's age.
