Man tried to abduct 8-year-old girl in Tataskweyak Cree Nation, RCMP say
Man described as driving dirty white van seen near Tataskweyak gas bar, police say
An eight-year-old girl escaped after a man tried to abduct her in a northern Manitoba community on Wednesday, police say.
The girl was walking near her school in Tataskweyak Cree Nation, also known as Split Lake, when a stranger offered her a ride there on Wednesday morning, police said in a news release.
The girl got away uninjured and made it to school safely.
RCMP were called about the attempted child abduction around 10 a.m. Wednesday. Officers who patrolled the area believe the suspected abductor fled the community before police were contacted.
The girl described the man as having short white hair and wearing a light grey jacket, police said. Other witnesses who saw the white van described it as partially dirty and said it had been seen numerous times driving by the TCN Gas Bar.
Anyone in the area who has either home surveillance cameras or a dash camera is asked to contact RCMP at 204-778-3050, or submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or on their website.
